Fence Company Playbook is an independent site for people who own and run fence companies. It exists to answer one question with numbers instead of promises: what actually produces more booked fence jobs, and what does it cost.
Who writes it
Steven Von is the editor. He has spent years running marketing for local service businesses, including fence and deck contractors, and has sat in on enough sales calls aimed at fence companies to know what they leave out. The pitch is always "more leads". The missing part is what a lead costs, how many become estimates, how many close, and what the job was worth. Every guide here answers those four questions for this trade, in the language of the trade: linear feet, per-foot pricing, HOA approvals, permits, pool codes, the March-to-June rush and the quiet weeks after Thanksgiving.
Where the benchmark data comes from
The benchmark report is built from public Google Business Profile listings. Each month the listings for fence contractors in every US state are pulled, deduplicated by place so a company with three service-area listings counts once, and summarized. The current set covers 12,946 companies in 50 states. Review counts, ratings, whether a website is listed, whether hours are published, and whether a photo exists are read directly from the listing. Nothing is estimated and nothing is surveyed. If a number is in the report, it came from a listing you could look up yourself.
The data refreshes monthly, so figures can change slightly between visits. The medians move slowly.
Editorial rules
- No pay-to-play. No company, supplier or software vendor can buy a mention, a ranking or a recommendation.
- Every number is sourced. Benchmark figures come from the dataset. Prices and costs per lead are ranges from real campaigns in this trade, and an opinion is called an opinion.
- No invented results. No made-up case studies, no "one client tripled their revenue" stories.
- External links go only to primary sources such as Google's own help pages or government statistics.
- Plain language. If a page cannot be read on a phone in a truck between estimates, it gets rewritten.
How the free 14-day trial works
Every service on this site, from Google Ads to bookkeeping, can be tried free for 14 days. You text or call, there is a 20-minute setup call, and the work starts in accounts that belong to you. No card on file, nothing renews, and if you stop at day 14 you keep whatever was built.
The trial exists because fence company owners are used to being asked for a six-month contract before a single estimate has been booked. We think an owner should see the first calls, the first review requests, or the first clean month of books before paying for anything. If the trial does not produce something you can point to, you have lost a setup call and nothing else.
Questions are answered on the FAQ page. To start a trial, text or call (385) 334-3643.
